HELLO! We're so happy to see you here.
This is it: the first post.
LARAMEE Publishing LLC is born. It made it through the long gestation period of ideas and dreams.
We made it, BABY!
LARAMEE Publishing LLC is a small publisher, an indie-press (such a cool name, right?), a mere baby in entrepreneurial life-expectancy. A newborn, I guess...but one that is kicking and screaming to leave a mark out there in the world of new books and talents.
LARAMEE Publishing LLC was born to bridge the gap in literature for minority cultural groups, especially in children's literature. Founded by a Brazilian university professor teaching in the US, LARAMEE Publishing LLC was created to better share the stories of families from different cultural, and national, backgrounds.
LARAMEE's main creator struggled with helping her children find a balance in their personal identity as dual-citizens. They were perfectly adapted to the country they were born in, US, but they didn't quite see themselves as also belonging to another culture. Her personal quest brought on frustrating searches, as she realized how minority groups still have a smaller presence in the book market. She was also disappointed when she realized that, of the existing books on minorities, a scarce few shared stories outside of the traditional Latino/Mexican-American group, or Asian subset.
And so, an indie-press was born.
LARAMEE Publishing LLC's mission is to provide young readers with books that will open their eyes to the broader world; books that will show them the benefits of different cultures interacting, and that such differences are exciting, rather than intimidating. LARAMEE's books also aim to help children from minority cultural/national groups to feel integrated and proud of the diversity that they bring to the American melting-pot.
However, it's not ALL about nationalities and culture. LARAMEE Publishing LLC will also publish books that tell stories of respect, personal challenges, and even overcoming sibling rivalry (as seen in an upcoming book).
So, welcome to LARAMEE Publishing LLC, a small press created by avid readers (can we EVER get our noses from behind a book?!) and parents with hands-on experience in cultural adaptation, education, child rearing, and...FUN!
